Note that this is still being playtested so is subject to change.
Overview
The basic concept is that both Willow Creek and Oasis Springs start empty* and each generation starts on an empty lot with nothing and you have to do certain goals over the generations to unlock community lots. This is similar to the Drifter Challenge.
Unlike Drifter, you can control all sims in the household and the goals that help you unlock lots are mainly in the early generations, later generation goals are more about exploring different things in the game, either base game or different packs/worlds.
Also, each generation starts when your main heir is a teen (that way they can’t learn as many skills before the generation starts).
*Alternatively, you can leave it built up and not access lots until they are unlocked. If a generation requires you to start on a lot, you’ll have to evict any sims living there and bulldoze the lot before your sims move in.
To Start
Prepare the save: Bulldoze Willow Creek and Oasis Springs or see above for an alternative suggestion. You will not be able to access any community lots until you’ve met certain goals over the legacy. You can move base game NPCs to Newcrest if you’d like. I plan to have a starting save which will have all the base game NPC’s living in a version of their home in Newcrest (these will be original versions of the NPCs, not the Maxis updated versions).
Note, I have provided an order for unlocking, but feel free to swap generations if you prefer to unlock a different thing first.
There will be goals for more than 10 generations. If you just want to do 10 generations, I recommend doing the starting ones that unlock community lots and pick what you want to do for your remaining generations. I plan to add more generations than the 14 currently drafted.
Starting: your sim (or two sims) start(s) as a teen – can be new or can grab from a previous save, preferably with minimum skills.
Lifespan: Set to normal* for your current household. You can decide what you want aging to be for unplayed households (both your own and NPCs). If you use MCCC you can flag certain sims outside your household to not age vs using the game options. Each sim can use one youth potion once in their lifetime.
Place your first generation on their starting lot & take their money down to zero (using cheats, give the money away or use household management to temporarily add a second sim and then move them out with the money) or start a Making Money scenario, that will set it to zero too.
Unless specified otherwise, lot traits/challenges can be changed whenever you want and the same applies for the type of residential lot your sims live on (regular/tiny residential/haunted house)
Tips:
- Do a save as before you start any generation in case you aren’t successful and need to start over.
- Don’t have children until you have reached/almost reached your required generation goals (unless the main goal is to have children!). Remember you can take one youth potion per sim per generation.
*If you want to take your time with the challenge, you can use a long lifespan and just age up children when they meet the goals for aging them up, though rules/goals will reflect the expected use of the normal lifespan.
Rules/Goals That Apply for all Generations, unless stated otherwise
Rules:
1. The heir will leave home once they become a teen & start over with nothing* on the lot noted for their generation. * Exception to this rule: if they bring something with them, they need to pay for the value before they buy anything else and before they can leave their neighbourhood. (See rule 2).
2. Your sim(s) can’t leave their neighbourhood unless they have 1,000 simoleons.
Exceptions: they can go to an active career, including high school, or to do work tasks for work from home careers, but you can only do your tasks, nothing else (spellcasters can visit MagicHQ to learn magic/buy things from the vendors, nothing else).
3. Unless stated otherwise in a generation’s goals, your main sim must have at least two children with one other sim in the household & both children will move to the lot for the next generation. The oldest will be the heir. Whether the main sim marries the other sim who is the co-parent is up to you. Children born from alien abduction do not qualify to be heirs.
4. When the heir becomes a teen, the heir and the sibling born after will move to the new lot.
Note if there are additional younger siblings you can bring them if & when you want, and apart from the two that need to remain, any other children can move back to their family home or to another lot to make room for the next generation. While the intent is for the non heir sibling to remain in the household, if you prefer, you can move them out if you wish once they have completed their goals for the generation.
5. Whenever you move any sims into the household, they can’t bring money or anything of value with them (they can bring a few minor personal items, like a journal). This also applies to any siblings you may temporarily move into the household.
6. If a base game neighbourhood hasn’t been lived in by a previous generation, don’t visit that neighbourhood until it has been lived in. For other worlds, they can access them right away unless they are stated to unlock after your sims live there. Note for generations where you can choose between a base game lot and a lot from a pack, the base game neighbourhood will unlock even if you don’t choose to live there.
7. If you wish, your sim(s) can meet their prospective spouse as a teen and move them in. If you do, the same goals noted for heirs and siblings apply to them.
8. Optional: if your sims attend university, you can temporarily turn aging off for 2 terms of university.
9. Both base game hidden lots (Forgotten Grotto & Sylvan Glade) can be accessed when you unlock parks (even if none of your sims have lived in the neighbourhood that lets you access Sylvan Glade).
10. If a career is mentioned, the goal will be to max it unless stated otherwise.
11. Get Together clubs can’t be used to make money (for example, no painting clubs with sims outside the household). Other than that, you can use clubs however you want, and club gatherings can be held on the home lot.
12. Unless specified for a particular generation, you can choose or randomize traits.
Optional: choose a trait from the pack a generation is focusing on (these traits will be stated so you know what they are (this still needs to be added)).
13. Optional: your sim can’t sell into their personal inventory until they’ve completed the fortune aspiration. If you want to do this, your sim can bring a yard sale table from the previous generation or just start with one for generation one. They will have to pay for that before they can buy anything or travel. (this requires either City Living, Eco Lifestyle or Jungle Adventures to access the yard sale table). If you want to make it harder, no marking up items until you’ve repaid the cost of the yard sale table.
Goals:
1. Your heir and any siblings that join them must age up as an A high school student and if you have Parenthood, they need to have at least three character values (whether they are positive, or negative, is up to you).
2. Some of these optional goals may be required for certain generations. Also, feel free to add your own optional goals for any/all generations. I just recommend you state them up front (or as you think of them) to help you focus on making those goals.
3. Optional: every generation must complete the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration. They shouldn’t start working on it until they are on the lot for their generation, and they should have a home and simoleons that total a minimum of 200,000 simoleons before you switch to that aspiration (mainly because any yard sale/street sale/business funds earned apply to the entire household so that type of income earned by the previous generation after the children were born will also count towards the income goal of the next generation).
4. Optional: use the Simple Living lot challenge until one sim per each generation unlocks the Simple Living Cookbook (requires Cottage Living and requires you to max cooking and cook a certain number of times with the challenge on).
5. Optional: have all your sims:
- As infants, at a minimum be happy infants, preferably top-notch infants.
- Reaching infant Growing Together milestones are optional. If you want to make this a goal, you can switch to a long lifespan while you have infants but take family leave/vacation time and focus on the infant while aging is off / on long or if you use mods, Bienchen has an infant care tweaks mods that speeds up the milestones.
- As toddlers, at a minimum be happy toddlers, preferably top notch toddlers, and
- As children, complete at least one childhood aspiration, preferably all four childhood aspirations (plus 4 GRO child aspirations if you want)
- If you have Seasons, max scouts before they age up to young adults.
- If you have High School Years, complete any/all teen aspirations (there are four in total).
Occults: Feel free to play as any occult, though if you play as a vampire, try having their children as if your vampire sims were aging on a normal lifespan. Spellcasters can access Magic HQ with their runestone, or through the magic portal off of a residential lot (i.e. before bars unlock, your sims can access it from the bar once it’s unlocked).

Once they are finalized, or at least closer to being finalized, I will either add a link to that document here or do separate blog posts for each generation, similar to what I will do for the first generation and link them.
