Our two main sims are Teen Holly Ito-FitzMoon (traits: genius & rancher, blond teen wearing pink cowboy hat) and her younger child brother Jared Ito-FitzMoon (trait: horse lover). Joining them is their grand aunt Nanami Ito (traits: animal enthusiast & genius), who is a teen and their first cousin, once removed, child Ivy Fitz-Moon (creative). They are all spellcasters. See cousin chart below as an FYI, I had to look it up to figure out the relationship!
See their outfits starting here in the Cottage Living LP finale.
The two main sims will stay for the entire LP, if I increase household size with MCCC, the other two may stay too, but that will depend on how things go!
Complete the Making Money scenario, earning the majority (approx a minimum of 75%) of our money from the Horse Ranch Pack, most of which will probably come from nectar!
Complete the Expert Nectar Maker aspiration with at least two of our sims (see screenshot of aspiration below). Make at least one bottle of every type of nectar available to our sims, including the special one for spellcasters & the vitality nectar.
Complete the Championship Rider aspiration with one sim (see screenshot of aspiration below).
Explore the Deadhorse Cavern caves in the Galloping Gulch neighbourhood.
Have at least one foal and raise it to see what special traits is can get.
We will need a minimum of one child, possibly two, for the next generation, from either Holly or Jared, most likely Holly as she is older.
I will have some other aspirations I will work on including, but not limited to, the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration, two teen aspirations (Admired Icon and Goal Oriented) with any teen & all child aspirations with our sim children.
Rules:
Sims start with no money, though if starting with existing sims, miscellaneous personal items are okay, as long as they don’t overly help with the challenge. My sims have Nanami’s cow (that was unplanned, thanks game!) and a shed for her. They will have to pay for the shed and the two brooms (mops) they brought with them once they have funds.
Start on the Palomino Junction lot in the Galloping Gulch neighbourhood, the house has been demolished and all that is left is the sheltered area for a horse, some landscaping and a pond that still needs a fishing sign! See screenshot below.
No selling into inventory until you have a yard sale table/street gallery (requires either City Living, Jungle Adventures or Eco Lifestyle).
Majority (a minimum of approximately 75%) of the money for the Making Money scenario should be from the Horse Ranch pack. Once that is completed you can make money however you want. Sims can get starting money from fishing, collecting, frog breeding, etc.
Aging can be whatever you wish. I will have it on long for my current household only.
You can use whatever type of residential lot you’d like. Mine will start as a tiny home (2 tier Tiny Residential), I may possibly change it to a regular residential lot later.

Horse Ranch Mods in My Game:
I have a number of bug fixing, game tweaking mods in my game, but this will only cover mods that I’m using that are specifically for the Horse Ranch pack.
LittleMsSam has a few mods that are for the Horse Ranch pack, but I am only using the following: – https://lms-mods.com/
Complete the Expert Nectar Maker aspiration with at least two of our sims (see screenshot below). Make at least one bottle of every type of nectar available to our sims, including the special one for spellcasters & the vitality nectar.
Complete the Championship Rider aspiration with Madison (edited to say we may use Veronica for this instead) (see screenshot below).
Complete the Making Money scenario, earning at least half from Nectar or Horse Ranch EP activities.
Examine the options on the community board.
Buy some mini goats and mini sheep.
Have Avery complete his final child aspiration & Veronica complete any that she’s missing.
Have Madison finish the Lady of the Knits aspiration.
Deal with any midlife crisis or work place rivals that happen, if they do.
See my separate post with an overview of the rules and optional goals that apply for all generations.
β——————————————————————————————————–
Optional βPrequelβ:
Do the Castaway Challenge with your sim (or sims, you can use up to three, your two founders and one child sibling if you want). This takes place on a different lot than the one you will play the rest of the generation on (see Note 1).
The rules of Castaway are what you follow if you do this part, not the rules of the legacy challenge apart from the ‘reward’, see below with what you can bring with you when you leave the island.
You can play on a long lifespan or with aging off while doing this challenge but switch it back to normal when you leave the island (or if you prefer, temporarily flag your sims with no aging with MCCC while you do this prequel challenge).
Note 1. See my gallery (MapleSimmer) for the Castaway lot, either use the Spa Day version or the base game version depending on the packs you own. If you have Island Living, place the lot on the Admiral Wreckage lot. If not, place it on the Landgraabβs now empty lot in Oasis Springs (Acquisition Butte).
β——————————————————————————————————–
Lots Unlocked:
Parks/National Parks/Myshuno Center, Wedding Venues, Beaches, and Gyms/Spas
Primary Skills to Focus on: Fishing & Gardening Secondary Skills: Fitness, if have Spa Day, Wellness
Have at least one sim max both fishing and gardening. Once that is done you can place/build the two park lots in WC and OS and can access/place parks/national parks/SM Center Park/wedding venues in other worlds. You can also visit Granite Falls.
Island Living Traits:
Child of the Ocean (however this doesnβt work well with the fishing aspiration), Child of the Island.Β These are optional to give to your sims.
Generation Lot:
Slipshod Mesquite in Oasis Springs (40×30 lot, 2,000 simoleons) or if you have Island Living, then the Key Point lot in the Mua Pelβam neighbourhood of Sulani (40×30, 7,000 simoleons).
Aspirations:
(can complete with at least one or any sim):
Base Game: complete the fishing & gardening aspirations.
Complete the bodybuilder aspiration once youβve unlocked the ability to place a gym. If you have Spa Day, have the same sim max wellness too and once youβve unlocked the ability to place gyms you can also place spas once your sim maxes wellness.
Island Living: complete Beach Life aspiration. (Note that aliens, alien hybrids, vampires and plantsims canβt suntan, which is one of the aspiration goals)
Optional During Generation: Complete the three wellness aspirations (one requires a spa, so that one canβt be completed until you unlock the spa π). Alternatively, if this is too much for this generation but you’d like to do this goal, you can always add it as a goal for a later generation.
Careers:
1) Athlete, bodybuilder branch. Note once the sim has maxed fitness and joined the bodybuilder branch of the athlete career, you can place the gyms in WC and OS and access/place gym lots in any world. 2) Conservation Career (Island Living), either branch (or both if you want the bodybuilder sim to switch after they max their career).
Extra Island Living Goal: clean up Mua Pelβam, once this has been done place a rental lot/convert a residential lot to a rental in Sulani. This also unlocks beaches.
Fishing β at a minimum mount or bowl 20 unique fish (i.e. which is what is required for the fishing aspiration). Island Living β try to complete the Island Living collections (seashells & treasures) and explore the cave enough times to complete the picture.
Note I will be playing this with my sims from my 2022 Castaway Challenge and Iris’ younger brother Jeffrey.
First part will be on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Playlist link.
Note that this is still being playtested so is subject to change.
Overview
The basic concept is that both Willow Creek and Oasis Springs start empty* and each generation starts on an empty lot with nothing and you have to do certain goals over the generations to unlock community lots. This is similar to the Drifter Challenge.
Unlike Drifter, you can control all sims in the household and the goals that help you unlock lots are mainly in the early generations, later generation goals are more about exploring different things in the game, either base game or different packs/worlds.
Also, each generation starts when your main heir is a teen (that way they can’t learn as many skills before the generation starts).
*Alternatively, you can leave it built up and not access lots until they are unlocked. If a generation requires you to start on a lot, youβll have to evict any sims living there and bulldoze the lot before your sims move in.
To Start
Prepare the save: Bulldoze Willow Creek and Oasis Springs or see above for an alternative suggestion. You will not be able to access any community lots until youβve met certain goals over the legacy. You can move base game NPCs to Newcrest if youβd like. I plan to have a starting save which will have all the base game NPCβs living in a version of their home in Newcrest (these will be original versions of the NPCs, not the Maxis updated versions).
Note, I have provided an order for unlocking, but feel free to swap generations if you prefer to unlock a different thing first.
There will be goals for more than 10 generations. If you just want to do 10 generations, I recommend doing the starting ones that unlock community lots and pick what you want to do for your remaining generations. I plan to add more generations than the 14 currently drafted.
Starting: your sim (or two sims) start(s) as a teen β can be new or can grab from a previous save, preferably with minimum skills.
Lifespan: Set to normal* for your current household. You can decide what you want aging to be for unplayed households (both your own and NPCs). If you use MCCC you can flag certain sims outside your household to not age vs using the game options. Each sim can use one youth potion once in their lifetime.
Place your first generation on their starting lot & take their money down to zero (using cheats, give the money away or use household management to temporarily add a second sim and then move them out with the money) or start a Making Money scenario, that will set it to zero too.
Unless specified otherwise, lot traits/challenges can be changed whenever you want and the same applies for the type of residential lot your sims live on (regular/tiny residential/haunted house)
Tips:
Do a save as before you start any generation in case you arenβt successful and need to start over.
Donβt have children until you have reached/almost reached your required generation goals (unless the main goal is to have children!). Remember you can take one youth potion per sim per generation.
*If you want to take your time with the challenge, you can use a long lifespan and just age up children when they meet the goals for aging them up, though rules/goals will reflect the expected use of the normal lifespan.
Rules/Goals That Apply for all Generations, unless stated otherwise
Rules:
1. The heir will leave home once they become a teen & start over with nothing* on the lot noted for their generation. * Exception to this rule: if they bring something with them, they need to pay for the value before they buy anything else and before they can leave their neighbourhood. (See rule 2).
2. Your sim(s) canβt leave their neighbourhood unless they have 1,000 simoleons. Exceptions: they can go to an active career, including high school, or to do work tasks for work from home careers, but you can only do your tasks, nothing else (spellcasters can visit MagicHQ to learn magic/buy things from the vendors, nothing else).
3. Unless stated otherwise in a generationβs goals, your main sim must have at least two children with one other sim in the household & both children will move to the lot for the next generation. The oldest will be the heir. Whether the main sim marries the other sim who is the co-parent is up to you. Children born from alien abduction do not qualify to be heirs.
4. When the heir becomes a teen, the heir and the sibling born after will move to the new lot. Note if there are additional younger siblings you can bring them if & when you want, and apart from the two that need to remain, any other children can move back to their family home or to another lot to make room for the next generation. While the intent is for the non heir sibling to remain in the household, if you prefer, you can move them out if you wish once they have completed their goals for the generation.
5. Whenever you move any sims into the household, they canβt bring money or anything of value with them (they can bring a few minor personal items, like a journal). This also applies to any siblings you may temporarily move into the household.
6. If a base game neighbourhood hasnβt been lived in by a previous generation, donβt visit that neighbourhood until it has been lived in. For other worlds, they can access them right away unless they are stated to unlock after your sims live there. Note for generations where you can choose between a base game lot and a lot from a pack, the base game neighbourhood will unlock even if you donβt choose to live there.
7. If you wish, your sim(s) can meet their prospective spouse as a teen and move them in. If you do, the same goals noted for heirs and siblings apply to them.
8. Optional: if your sims attend university, you can temporarily turn aging off for 2 terms of university.
9. Both base game hidden lots (Forgotten Grotto & Sylvan Glade) can be accessed when you unlock parks (even if none of your sims have lived in the neighbourhood that lets you access Sylvan Glade).
10. If a career is mentioned, the goal will be to max it unless stated otherwise.
11. Get Together clubs canβt be used to make money (for example, no painting clubs with sims outside the household). Other than that, you can use clubs however you want, and club gatherings can be held on the home lot.
12. Unless specified for a particular generation, you can choose or randomize traits. Optional: choose a trait from the pack a generation is focusing on (these traits will be stated so you know what they are (this still needs to be added)).
13. Optional: your sim canβt sell into their personal inventory until theyβve completed the fortune aspiration. If you want to do this, your sim can bring a yard sale table from the previous generation or just start with one for generation one. They will have to pay for that before they can buy anything or travel. (this requires either City Living, Eco Lifestyle or Jungle Adventures to access the yard sale table). If you want to make it harder, no marking up items until youβve repaid the cost of the yard sale table.
Goals:
1. Your heir and any siblings that join them must age up as an A high school student and if you have Parenthood, they need to have at least three character values (whether they are positive, or negative, is up to you).
2. Some of these optional goals may be required for certain generations. Also, feel free to add your own optional goals for any/all generations. I just recommend you state them up front (or as you think of them) to help you focus on making those goals.
3. Optional: every generation must complete the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration. They shouldnβt start working on it until they are on the lot for their generation, and they should have a home and simoleons that total a minimum of 200,000 simoleons before you switch to that aspiration (mainly because any yard sale/street sale/business funds earned apply to the entire household so that type of income earned by the previous generation after the children were born will also count towards the income goal of the next generation).
4. Optional: use the Simple Living lot challenge until one sim per each generation unlocks the Simple Living Cookbook (requires Cottage Living and requires you to max cooking and cook a certain number of times with the challenge on).
5. Optional: have all your sims:
As infants, at a minimum be happy infants, preferably top-notch infants.
Reaching infant Growing Together milestones are optional. If you want to make this a goal, you can switch to a long lifespan while you have infants but take family leave/vacation time and focus on the infant while aging is off / on long or if you use mods, Bienchen has an infant care tweaks mods that speeds up the milestones.
As toddlers, at a minimum be happy toddlers, preferably top notch toddlers, and
As children, complete at least one childhood aspiration, preferably all four childhood aspirations (plus 4 GRO child aspirations if you want)
If you have Seasons, max scouts before they age up to young adults.
If you have High School Years, complete any/all teen aspirations (there are four in total).
Occults: Feel free to play as any occult, though if you play as a vampire, try having their children as if your vampire sims were aging on a normal lifespan. Spellcasters can access Magic HQ with their runestone, or through the magic portal off of a residential lot (i.e. before bars unlock, your sims can access it from the bar once itβs unlocked).

Note that I have a draft working copy of goals for all generations available on my discord. Once they are finalized, or at least closer to being finalized, I will either add a link to that document here or do separate blog posts for each generation, similar to what I will do for the first generation and link them.
Overall, canβt say I learned much that hadnβt already been shared in the blog post/behind the sims, except for names of some townies and their roles, however here’s my written summary including screenshots from the trailer of a few things I noted.
First thing they mentioned was how much work it is, which was already mentioned in EA’s guided tour blog post.
Community is mentioned as being important.
We got βintroducedβ to a couple of townies over the course of the trailer.
The first townie we were introduced to was Siena, horse trainer and owner of the Equestrian Center in town, where all the competitions like barrel racing and jumping take place. This clip from the trailer shows plaques which are probably what you win from the competitions:
Horse βtemperamentsβ. Some horses can be friendly and patient, others can be aggressive and defiant. They have different personalities and traits (Which was already mentioned in the behind the scenes look at horses during the Behind the Sims).
The closer you are with a horse, the easier it is to practice your skills.
Youβll see sims on horses pretty much everywhere, long rides out in the park and through town.
Horses take a lot of space (no surprise there!).
Foals can inherit their parentβs nature.
They need to be fed, played with, brushed, trained, and cleaned up after.
Adding the mini goats and sheep adds to the work (not sure why they need to be bottle fed if you can get milk and wool from them).
Not sure if sims will be able to count sheep or if that was trailer magic!
Mentions hiring a ranch hand, they will look after your livestock and tend crops needed for nectar making (however I would think they just garden in general?)
They mention you can hire the ranch hands from the community board, and you can also buy or adopt horses from the community board.
You can eventually make money from nectar making, though in the beginning youβll make sub par batches.
There are many kinds of nectar (they show grape, strawberry and apple and they indicated different emojis for both, so I wonder if they give different emotions, like different fizzy juices do).
Is this one like the suspicious fizz you can make in Eco Lifestyle? Is this the special nectar?
The second townie we were introduced to was Roberto Crinkletop who you can learn a secret recipe from.
I expect thatβs the recipe for the nectar that brings sims back to life.
Roberto has no home, no one knows where he lives, but he will show up to the dances!
The pack is out July 20th, 2023.
Early purchase bonus if you buy the pack by August 31, 2023 (pre-ordering isn’t necessary):
Reminder, the developer livestream is on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11 am Pacific and will be on their Twitch and their YouTube. This was shared in the Behind the Sims blog post recap.
No indication given on how long the gallery maintenance will take.
New Console Control Feedback Thread
The May 30 update brought more changes to console controls and EA has closed the old thread and created a new one. From what I’m seeing on the new changes, is negative.
Link to new thread I recommend going over there to comment with your feedback. Hopefully they are quicker to respond this time then they were last time.

Meet Lila Mayberry, who is a creative freegan who is also an animal enthusiast and is about to embark on the No Skills, No Problem Scenario. The twist, we’re going to try and get a golden chicken to help her get a perfect garden since she won’t be able to gain any skills and evolve her garden herself. As per the scenario goals, she is starting with no simoleons and on a now empty lot (3 Olde Mill Lane in Henford on Bagley). As an aside, she is playing in the same save and neighourhood that Cameron McGregor is in, i.e. the sim used in my playthrough of the Extraterrestrial Researcher Scenario.
If you’d like to play with Lila, she’s now on the gallery.
The scenario goals are quite simple, have 400,000 simoleons while not being able to gain any skills.
In addition to this goal, I plan to complete the following aspirations:
Fortune Aspiration
Both Spellcaster Aspirations (Spellcraft & Sorcery and Purveyor of Potions)
Curator Aspiration
She will also work on other aspirations as best she can when not being able to gain any skills.
As for the rags to riches element, the main rule I will be following is that Lila won’t be able to sell into her personal inventory until she has earned enough for a yard sale table. So she will have to first earn money by taking on errands, selling fish/produce to the Finchwick grocery or gardening stands or taking on odd jobs.

Links for bugs mentioned in my video, and if available mods to fix the issues and/or Crinrict reports summarizing the issue:
GRO = Growing Together
BG = Base Game
This list is split into two types, ‘bigger bugs’ that have a bigger effect on game play (10 in that section) and minor bugs that are more of a nuisance and have a smaller impact on game play (6 in that section).
Note that if you are using mods and cc and are experiencing issues, make sure you test in a mods/cc free save as they may be causing problems, even if you’ve updated. Please check either Luth’s mod tracking list on the Sims 4 forums or Scarlett’s mod tracking list.
Note some issues have been fixed as of April 26, 2023 which is noted under the individual points.
Initially it was thought that this was tied to Laundry Day and that disabling the LD stuff pack would help. This doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, so the cause seems to be unknown. If you’ve experienced this, here is some information that EA would like (screenshot from bug report):
3.Parents need to be introduced to infant (BG): Note the issue with this is the parent/caregiver won’t be able to look after the infant until they are introduced. You can hire a nanny to introduce your sim to the infant, or if someone else on the lot is known to the infant, have them do the introduction. If you have MCCC you can use the ‘set relationship levels’ and then choose friends (lower level may work, but that was the option I choose) and your parent will then have all the options to look after the infant. It was initially thought to be tied to the beloved trait, and that may be one cause, but I’ve had it happen with sims who don’t have the beloved trait.
4.Sims lose milestones, including infants (GRO): Note one issue with this as it pertains to infants, is that they don’t seem to be able to get the milestones again and losing them can reset their progress and then they can’t progress any further. Some people found it was triggered by rotational play, others by sending the infants to the grandparents and others just by travelling. Not sure if just going into manage worlds might cause an issue.
5.Sims have all the same name/CAS corruption(GRO + Other): Note that there is a similar existing bug, but it can also be caused by GRO if you try to change traits after sims have learned extra self discovery traits. i.e. either by using the cas.fulleditcheat or if you download a sim from the gallery with extra traits learned through self discovery. See Crinrict’s report for more information.
Second key bit of advice from Crin's post: THIS ERROR CAN SPREAD to other households and even other Saves! If you see this error in CAS with the names or traits, "close your game completely without saving if you run into the error and reload the game." https://t.co/OGy4CqXLMD
6.Teens and Children change appearance due to loose tooth (GRO). The ability to lose a tooth has been temporarily disabled for PC/Mac (Mar 24/23 update) and console will hopefully get the same update shortly while EA works on a solution to this problem. Since the issue is not actually fixed, the bug reports are still open.
7.Pregnancy not Progressing & Relationship Telemetry Hooks Last Exceptions (BG): Neither of these are happening to everyone, but it is an issue for some people. For the never ending pregnancy, some have found that switching to another household has allowed the pregnancy to progress, but that doesn’t seem to be working for everyone, or possibly even many people. There is a bug fix mod for both these issues, which may be related. Fixed in April 18, 2023 game update.
10.Issues with the Mountain Climbing Excursion: The new issue is that the mountain climbing excursion is not progressing. There was an old issue where there was no check mark to select the members. There’s a work around for the latter. You currently need bug fix mod for the excursion not progressing, there is no other work around. Fixed in April 18, 2023 game update.
1.Items Removed pop-up appears when no items removed (BG): This is an older bug, but seems more common since the infant update. You get a message that items from unowned content have been removed but nothing appears to be removed from your build/lot.
Here is where the lots are in San Sequoia (sims can’t walk on the grassy area around these two lots, they can walk on the road and a dirt path that doesn’t show in this map view)
General Advice:
β οΈ Just a general piece of advice I saw Turbodriver give on September 21, 2022 is that if you are experiencing issues with saving, it’s best to save the game in gameplay (i.e. from live mode) versus from manage worlds. β οΈThis can help prevent some issues with corrupting saves. So I recommend if you are editing your world from manage worlds, go into your household/a household and then save the game. While this refers to the issue happening in modded saves, I have seen people have a problem even in unmodded saves.
