Rags to Property Owners! (Sims 4 For Rent)

Playlist link

Meet Our Sims

Teen Phillip Ito-FitzMoon (Cringe, Nosy, with Business Savvy bonus trait from a fortune aspiration) and his younger sister, child Rosalind (Creative) will be joined by teen Hollie Pruett-Meyers (Creative, Geek with Collector bonus trait from a nature aspiration) who was a child in my For Rent Mini Let’s Play. Link to their household on the gallery.

Goals:

For Rent Goals:

  1. Complete all four For Rent aspirations (Discerning Dweller, Fount of Tomarani Knowledge, Five-Star Property Owner & Seeker of Secrets) with at least one sim, though I hope to complete all but the Seeker of Secrets with all of them. Seeker of Secrets will be a goal of Phillip, our nosy sim.
  2. Complete both collections (marbles & tassels) that come with the For Rent pack.
  3. Get as many secrets as possible (there are about 30).
  4. Hold a potluck and pool party at least once (the two new social events that come with the For Rent pack).

Teen Goals:

  1. Teens must complete the Admired Icon and Goal Oriented teen aspirations.
  2. Teens must have at least three positive character values before they age up to young adult, but preferably all five character values will be positive.

Other Goals:

  1. Complete the fortune aspiration.
  2. Complete the Making Money scenario.
  3. Our Ito-FitzMoon sims must have two children to carry on the Rags to Riches legacy in the next generation (the siblings can each have one each, or one of them can have two). They can have more children, but only two are needed for the next generation pack LP (whatever pack that will be!).

I will work on other aspirations that seem to suit their goals of making money, etc., but those are the defined up front goals.

Rules:

  1. Start with nothing on the 20×20 empty lot in Tomarang (ISDA Riverfront, Koh Sahpa). While on this lot sims can only use things that are portable, the only exception is they can have a small garden, though with no trees.
  2. No selling into personal inventory or marking up prices until our sims have paid off the yard sale table they start with.
  3. Travel is restricted to Tomarang, San Myshuno, Magic HQ & to the high school neighbourhood. They can also visit the vet clinic in Brindleton Bay if they have a sick pet. Otherwise they must book a vacation rental in the location (see Note I below) until they complete the Fortune Aspiration.
  4. Once the sims have saved enough money they will move into a rental.
  5. Once at least one sim has completed the Discerning Dweller aspiration, they can move into their own owned residential rental lot.
  6. Once they have completed the Five-Star Property Owner aspiration they can move off their owned residential rental lot if they wish.
  7. They can make money from anything as I find being a landlord isn’t lucrative & needs other sources to support it.
  8. Lifespan is up to you. I’m using a long lifespan & aging up as certain goals are met.
  9. For more Rags to Riches guidelines, see my blog post or video.

Note I: Worlds I consider as one world:

  1. Oasis Springs & Del Sol Valley
  2. Willow Creek, Newcrest & Magnolia Promenade
  3. San Myshuno can be accessed freely from any world.

Food Stand Rags to Riches (Sims 4 Home Chef Hustle)

Playlist link

Meet Our Sims

Anna and Rudy Banks are the young married spellcaster couple embarking on this challenge. Anna is a family oriented, creative foodie with the bonus trait of essence of flavour from choosing a food aspiration (Appliance Wiz). Rudy is a genius foodie rancher with the bonus trait of business savvy from choosing a fortune aspiration (Market Magnate).

If you’d like to play with these sims, they are on the gallery.

Rules:

  1. Start with nothing on an empty lot (I’m starting on Twin Oracle Point in Newcrest, a 50×40 lot).
  2. No selling into personal inventory until your sims have a yard sale table (so do errands, sell to Finchwick stands or Chestnut Ridge general store to earn money to start).
  3. If get free services reward trait, must manually deduct half the cost of groceries ordered (this requires the use of cheats and is because ordered groceries are free in the game with this trait). If both sims complete the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration this restriction will be lifted and groceries can be free.
  4. Lot type used and lifespan is up to you. I’m using a regular residential lot and a long lifespan.
  5. For more Rags to Riches guidelines, see my blog post or video.

Goals:

  1. Complete the two new aspirations that came with the Home Chef Hustle Stuff Pack (Appliance Wiz and Market Magnate). Anna will be working on the Appliance Wiz aspiration and Rudy will be working on the Market Magnate aspiration.
  2. Build a home.
  3. Complete at least the first three tiers of the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration.
  4. Optional, once Rudy completes the Market Magnate aspiration, try using they copypasto spell to copy an extra ambrosia multiple times and see how quickly they can finish the Making Money scenario.

Mods in my Game Related to Home Chef Hustle:

I’m currently only using one mod related to the stuff pack:

BosseLadyTV mod ‘Fewer Pizza Oven Fires’: https://legacy.curseforge.com/sims4/mods/fewer-pizza-oven-fires

Note you don’t have to use the CurseForge app to get the mod, you can just download it from the browser, that’s what I did.

Ranching Rags to Riches

Playlist Link

Meet Our Sims

The children from our Cottage Living Rags to Riches are moving the Chestnut Ridge!

Our two main sims are Teen Holly Ito-FitzMoon (traits: genius & rancher, blond teen wearing pink cowboy hat) and her younger child brother Jared Ito-FitzMoon (trait: horse lover). Joining them is their grand aunt Nanami Ito (traits: animal enthusiast & genius), who is a teen and their first cousin, once removed, child Ivy Fitz-Moon (creative). They are all spellcasters. See cousin chart below as an FYI, I had to look it up to figure out the relationship!

See their outfits starting here in the Cottage Living LP finale.

The two main sims will stay for the entire LP, if I increase household size with MCCC, the other two may stay too, but that will depend on how things go!

Cousin Chart:

Source: https://www.familysearch.org/en/blog/cousin-chart

Goals:

  1. Complete the Making Money scenario, earning the majority (approx a minimum of 75%) of our money from the Horse Ranch Pack, most of which will probably come from nectar!
  2. Complete the Expert Nectar Maker aspiration with at least two of our sims (see screenshot of aspiration below). Make at least one bottle of every type of nectar available to our sims, including the special one for spellcasters & the vitality nectar.
  3. Complete the Championship Rider aspiration with one sim (see screenshot of aspiration below).
  4. Explore the Deadhorse Cavern caves in the Galloping Gulch neighbourhood.
  5. Have at least one foal and raise it to see what special traits is can get.
  6. We will need a minimum of one child, possibly two, for the next generation, from either Holly or Jared, most likely Holly as she is older.
  7. I will have some other aspirations I will work on including, but not limited to, the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration, two teen aspirations (Admired Icon and Goal Oriented) with any teen & all child aspirations with our sim children.

Rules:

  1. Sims start with no money, though if starting with existing sims, miscellaneous personal items are okay, as long as they don’t overly help with the challenge. My sims have Nanami’s cow (that was unplanned, thanks game!) and a shed for her. They will have to pay for the shed and the two brooms (mops) they brought with them once they have funds.
  2. Start on the Palomino Junction lot in the Galloping Gulch neighbourhood, the house has been demolished and all that is left is the sheltered area for a horse, some landscaping and a pond that still needs a fishing sign! See screenshot below.
  3. No selling into inventory until you have a yard sale table/street gallery (requires either City Living, Jungle Adventures or Eco Lifestyle).
  4. Majority (a minimum of approximately 75%) of the money for the Making Money scenario should be from the Horse Ranch pack. Once that is completed you can make money however you want. Sims can get starting money from fishing, collecting, frog breeding, etc.
  5. Aging can be whatever you wish. I will have it on long for my current household only.
  6. You can use whatever type of residential lot you’d like. Mine will start as a tiny home (2 tier Tiny Residential), I may possibly change it to a regular residential lot later.
  7. For more Rags to Riches guidelines, see my blog post or video.

Lot – can be found on the gallery under my ID, MapleSimmer:

Generation One Maple Rags to Riches Legacy (Sims 4 Base Game plus optional Spa Day/Island Living Goals)

See my separate post with an overview of the rules and optional goals that apply for all generations.

———————————————————————————————————–

Optional ’Prequel’

Do the Castaway Challenge with your sim (or sims, you can use up to three, your two founders and one child sibling if you want). This takes place on a different lot than the one you will play the rest of the generation on (see Note 1).

The rules of Castaway are what you follow if you do this part, not the rules of the legacy challenge apart from the ‘reward’, see below with what you can bring with you when you leave the island.

You can play on a long lifespan or with aging off while doing this challenge but switch it back to normal when you leave the island (or if you prefer, temporarily flag your sims with no aging with MCCC while you do this prequel challenge).

Once you leave the island you can keep the funds you’ve earned, items you unlocked, bees if you’ve befriended them (i.e., if one sim can collect swarms from them) and plants. You can’t keep the value of the island. (https://maplesimmer.video.blog/2021/12/31/castaway-challenge-seasons-edition/).

Note 1. See my gallery (MapleSimmer) for the Castaway lot, either use the Spa Day version or the base game version depending on the packs you own. If you have Island Living, place the lot on the Admiral Wreckage lot. If not, place it on the Landgraab’s now empty lot in Oasis Springs (Acquisition Butte).

———————————————————————————————————–

Lots Unlocked:

Parks/National Parks/Myshuno Center, Wedding Venues, Beaches, and Gyms/Spas

Primary Skills to Focus on: Fishing & Gardening
Secondary Skills: Fitness, if have Spa Day, Wellness

Have at least one sim max both fishing and gardening.  Once that is done you can place/build the two park lots in WC and OS and can access/place parks/national parks/SM Center Park/wedding venues in other worlds. You can also visit Granite Falls.

Island Living Traits:

Child of the Ocean (however this doesn’t work well with the fishing aspiration), Child of the Island. These are optional to give to your sims.

Generation Lot:

Slipshod Mesquite in Oasis Springs (40×30 lot, 2,000 simoleons) or if you have Island Living, then the Key Point lot in the Mua Pel’am neighbourhood of Sulani (40×30, 7,000 simoleons).

Aspirations:

  • (can complete with at least one or any sim):
  • Base Game: complete the fishing & gardening aspirations.
  • Complete the bodybuilder aspiration once you’ve unlocked the ability to place a gym.
If you have Spa Day, have the same sim max wellness too and once you’ve unlocked the ability to place gyms you can also place spas once your sim maxes wellness.
  • Island Living: complete Beach Life aspiration. (Note that aliens, alien hybrids, vampires and plantsims can’t suntan, which is one of the aspiration goals)

Optional During Generation: Complete the three wellness aspirations (one requires a spa, so that one can’t be completed until you unlock the spa 😊). Alternatively, if this is too much for this generation but you’d like to do this goal, you can always add it as a goal for a later generation.

Careers:

1) Athlete, bodybuilder branch. Note once the sim has maxed fitness and joined the bodybuilder branch of the athlete career, you can place the gyms in WC and OS and access/place gym lots in any world.
2) Conservation Career (Island Living), either branch (or both if you want the bodybuilder sim to switch after they max their career).

Extra Island Living Goal: clean up Mua Pel’am, once this has been done place a rental lot/convert a residential lot to a rental in Sulani. This also unlocks beaches.

Optional Island Living Goal: Try to attend all the festivals and events. Here’s a guide to when and where they are. Source is Sims Community: https://simscommunity.info/2022/05/15/sims-4-sulani-events-guide/

Collections to Focus On:

Fishing – at a minimum mount or bowl 20 unique fish (i.e. which is what is required for the fishing aspiration).
Island Living – try to complete the Island Living collections (seashells & treasures) and explore the cave enough times to complete the picture.

Note I will be playing this with my sims from my 2022 Castaway Challenge and Iris’ younger brother Jeffrey.

First part will be on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Playlist link.

No Skills, No Problem Scenario, Cottage Living Edition (Sims 4)

Playlist link TBA

Meet Lila Mayberry, who is a creative freegan who is also an animal enthusiast and is about to embark on the No Skills, No Problem Scenario. The twist, we’re going to try and get a golden chicken to help her get a perfect garden since she won’t be able to gain any skills and evolve her garden herself. As per the scenario goals, she is starting with no simoleons and on a now empty lot (3 Olde Mill Lane in Henford on Bagley). As an aside, she is playing in the same save and neighourhood that Cameron McGregor is in, i.e. the sim used in my playthrough of the Extraterrestrial Researcher Scenario.

If you’d like to play with Lila, she’s now on the gallery.

The scenario goals are quite simple, have 400,000 simoleons while not being able to gain any skills.

In addition to this goal, I plan to complete the following aspirations:

  1. Fortune Aspiration
  2. Both Spellcaster Aspirations (Spellcraft & Sorcery and Purveyor of Potions)
  3. Curator Aspiration

She will also work on other aspirations as best she can when not being able to gain any skills.

As for the rags to riches element, the main rule I will be following is that Lila won’t be able to sell into her personal inventory until she has earned enough for a yard sale table. So she will have to first earn money by taking on errands, selling fish/produce to the Finchwick grocery or gardening stands or taking on odd jobs.

Extraterrestrial Researcher with a Rags Start! (Sims 4 Scenario)

Playlist link

Meet Cameron McGregor, who is a genius, geek and animal enthusiast and is about to embark on the Extraterrestrial Researcher Scenario. The twist? He’s starting with nothing on an empty lot (2 Olde Mill Lane in Henford on Bagley).

If you’d like to play with Cameron, he’s now on the gallery.

The scenario goals themselves are pretty simple, bring back 5 unique living alien critters from voyages into space.

In addition to this goal, I plan to have Cameron complete the nerd brain aspiration.

As for the rags start, the main rule I will be following is that Cameron won’t be able to sell into his personal inventory until he has earned enough for a yard sale table. So he will have to first earn money by taking on errands, selling fish/produce to the Finchwick grocery or gardening stands or taking on odd jobs. There are other ways to earn money that can be used if you want to play along with a rags start (getting a job or programming or writing using a public computer are other ways that come to mind).

Growing Together Rags to Riches (Sims 4)

My latest LP for Growing Together LP is a variation on rags to riches, as my family will get to start with an empty house. First part should be up later today, March 24, 2023 at 3 pm EDT. Playlist link to TBA.

Meet our Family:

The Samuels are a close knit family. including a recently widowed mom who has a teen, a child, an infant and another one on the way! Her husband passed away recently and she used the little insurance money remaining to buy an unfurnished home in San Sequoia, which is new town for her and her family but happens to be where her sister is currently living. How will they all manage? Gallery link for the family.

Mom, young adult Madison Samuels, she is creative, family oriented and an animal enthusiast. She has the bonus collector trait from choosing a nature aspiration.

Teen, Brynn Samuels, she is a creative and a geek & has the muser trait from choosing a creativity aspiration. She will be joining us in the fall as she is currently on an exchange for the summer in Mt. Komorebi.

Child, Fiona Samuels who is an animal enthusiasts.

Infant, Avery Samuels who is sunny.

Family cat Mimi, who is a glutton, clever and a prowler!

Also in the San Sequoia is Madison’s young adult sister Sage Galloway. She is a genius bookworm, who also happens to be an animal enthusiast. She has the quick learner trait from choosing a knowledge aspiration.

Goals:

  1. Have Madison at a minimum complete the Parenthood parent aspiration, the fortune aspiration & one nature aspiration. She will also work on other aspirations and complete what she can.
  2. When our teen Brynn joins the household she needs to complete the overachiever teen aspiration and like her mom she will also work on other aspirations, including her primary aspiration, Bestselling Author.
  3. Have all children, starting with Fiona, complete all child aspirations, including the four new ones.
  4. Have all children learn how to ride a bike.
  5. Have all infants, starting with Avery, complete all infant milestones and try all infant foods (both mashed and finger foods) and as a toddler, max all skills.
  6. Furnish their home so that it suits a family living there!
  7. See if we can complete all the puzzles!
  8. The family must buy and build a treehouse and fully upgrade it.

Will Madison meet someone and if she does, what impact will that have on her family?

Optional Goal: Complete the Making Money scenario.

Rules:

  1. Sims start with nothing except the unfurnished house on 23 Eucalyptus Lane, a 30×20 lot in the Hopewell Hills area of San Sequoia (gallery link for my starting home, see screenshot below)
  2. No selling into inventory until you have a yard sale table/street gallery (requires either City Living, Jungle Adventures or Eco Lifestyle).
  3. Aging can be whatever you wish. I will have it on long for my current household only.
  4. You can use whatever type of residential lot you’d like. Mine is a tiny home (2 tier Tiny Residential)
  5. For more Rags to Riches guidelines, see my blog post or video.

Rags to Riches: Fishing Edition (Sims 4)

My latest rags to riches LP is now on my channel. Playlist link

Rags to Riches: Fishing Edition Goals and Rules:

Note you can start with one to three sims. If you play with more than one sim, anyone who is a teen and up must complete all required goals. If you do any of the optional goals, you can choose whether one or all sims will complete them.

Goals:

  1. Complete fishing aspiration
  2. Complete base game fishing collection
  3. Fish in every world, including any vacation worlds (i.e., for each pack you have, if you only have base game, then fish in every neighbourhood with fishing).
  4. Max the handiness skill
  5. Fish in Sylvan Glade and Forgotten Grotto (the latter requires level 10 of handiness skill 😊)
  6. At a minimum, build a one bedroom, one bathroom home worth 20k per sim (if you play with one sim, it needs to be worth 20k, if you play with 2 sims, it needs to be worth 40k, and so on, though you only need to count sims that are child or older)

Optional Goals (choose any or all):

  1. Complete fortune aspiration.
  2. Complete making money scenario.
  3. Fish in the Hermit’s neighbourhood (Outdoor Retreat required).
  4. Fish in every neighbourhood with fishing (vs only in every world).
  5. Catch every fish in the game.
  6. Display one of each fish you catch (either by mounting them or in a fishbowl or aquarium). Alternatively, just display the uncommon and/or rare fish.
  7. Max the part time fishing career (requires Island Living).
  8. Max the Odd Job rating (requires Island Living).

I plan on trying to complete optional goals 1, 3 & 5. I may work on some more; I’ll see how it goes!

Rules:

  1. Start with nothing on a mostly empty lot (unstocked pond is fine, and if the lot comes with some landscaping, increase the value that your house needs to be to reflect that starting value).
  2. Most money must come from things caught fishing. But that doesn’t mean just from fish, you can catch other things, those are fine to sell, or to craft into something else and sell.
  3. You can plant any harvestables you catch.
  4. Your sims can do Odd Jobs &/or a part time career (though this may interfere with their fishing)

Optional Rules:

  1. No selling into inventory until you have a yard sale table (requires either City Living, Jungle Adventures or Eco Lifestyle).
  2. Use simple living lot challenge, however, until you have completed goal 6 you can only buy Cottage Living items (eggs, meat, cheese, bread, oversized produce) to cook with. The rest must be caught fishing, and then planted and harvested. After you complete that goal, you can buy seed packets to get more harvestables to plant and eat.
  3. Play off the grid. Once you complete the fishing collection you can connect to the grid.
  4. Furnish your house from things crafted/found dumpster diving/purchased in game (not in build/buy mode). Exception, once you find one kitchen counter, you can buy more of the same. You can buy things you don’t find dumpster diving or craft, like skill building objects, Seasons’ holiday objects. If your sim has a child, you can buy things needed for them. *To make it easier, you can buy the cheapest item to use, and only upgrade once you find something better dumpster diving. You can ignore this rule once you complete goals 1 through 5 (and optional goal 1 if you are doing that one).

Meet The Sims:

Meet our sims for my latest rags to riches. They are a young married couple just starting out. Both are spellcasters.

Rex Bishop, who is a genius, a geek and loves the outdoors. His bonus trait is also collector from initially choosing a nature aspiration.

Serena Bishop, who is an animal enthusiast, creative and loves the outdoors. Her bonus trait is collector from initially choosing a nature aspiration.

Painting Collection Challenge (The Sims 4 Rags to Riches)

image-2.png

I’ve done a lot of painting in The Sims 4, but generally have my sims sell the paintings, so I came up with this idea to try and have two sims get as many different paintings and display them. To make it harder, your sims are going to start with nothing!

I will be doing a short Let’s Play of this challenge, I’ll be covering the goals and rules noted here in my video premiering on at 7 pm EST, Sunday, December 4, 2022.

Set Up/Rules/Suggestions:

  1. Start with two sims (can be aged teen and up, whatever you want, relationship between them is also up to you). If you want to add a third, non painting sim to help with collectibles/yard sales, that’s up to you, but they can’t be used for painting.
  2. You can turn aging off or use a normal or long lifespan. I don’t recommend using a short lifespan.
  3. Your sims start with nothing. You can make ‘seed’ money for painting via Odd Jobs (Island Living), Errands (Cottage Living), finding/selling collectibles, etc., though the focus should be on using painting to make money. Of course painting tends to be an easy way to make money, though possibly not as easy because you can only sell duplicate paintings. (Since the sims start with no money, if you wish, you can start using the ‘Making Money’ scenario as a way to set the funds to zero. If you do, completing the scenario won’t be part of this challenge.)
  4. You can use easels on public lots, etc. before your sims have enough money for an easel.
  5. Start on an empty lot that is at least 40×30, though it can be bigger. This is so you have room for your room/building to display the paintings. Re the empty lot, that means no buildings, but if it’s a lot that has a little landscaping, including a pond (but no fishing sign until your sims can buy it), that’s fine.
  6. You can sell any duplicate paintings, the rest must be kept and displayed in some manner on your lot. You can choose which duplicate to sell (i.e. I recommend selling the more valuable versions of the paintings to help keep your bills down).
  7. You can use a household club, but you can’t have non household members join and paint. Only your two painting sims can paint.
  8. You can buy your sim any reward traits they can with their reward points. I recommend the ‘marketable’ reward trait to increase the value of your sims’ paintings once your sims have the points for it.
  9. I don’t recommend using any of the following to boost the painting skill, as some paintings are only available at lower skills, so you don’t want to rush through maxing the painting skill:
    • a tiny residential lot (though you can use to boost other skills once your sims have already maxed the painting skill),
    • using a club perk to boost the painting skill, and/or
    • using the Natural Light lot trait.

Goals:

  1. Keep any painting that is different (i.e. ‘unique’).
  2. At a minimum have at least five of every type and size, however you need to keep any unique paintings that your sims paint so hopefully you’ll end up with more than five of each type. This includes all emotional paintings (exception is focused paintings as there are only three of them) and the figure paintings if you have DU.
    • Types of base game paintings that come in three sizes are classic, pop art, impressionism, surrealism, realism & abstract. (so since there are 6 types, that’s a minimum of 6×5=30 small, 6×5=30 medium, & 6×5=30 large for these six types of paintings)
    • Landscape paintings are just one size (so minimum 5 of the these).
    • Emotional painting types: flirty, confident, playful, sad, angry & focused & only come in one size. Note that focused paintings builds logic skill, and logic skill is what unlocks the different types of focused paintings, so at least one of your two sims must build their logic skill. (so minimum 5×5 + 3 focused =27 of these)
    • If you have Discover University (“DU”), try to get at least five different types of figure paintings (per a Sims Sanctuary Facebook group member, there are 9 different types). (5 more of these)
  3. Have your painting sims do a large paint by reference of each other. (2 more paintings)
  4. The minimum total different paintings you should have are 124 (30+30+30+5+27+2) if you don’t have DU, 129 if you have DU.
  5. Put all the paintings you’ve collected, including the paint by reference of each sim (i.e. two paint by reference paintings), on display in a separate room, possibly separate building (i.e. ‘art gallery’), on the sim’s home lot.
  6. Upload your lot (or room with all the paintings) to the gallery once you’re done and use #MSPaintingChallenge when sharing. Share your progress & pictures in the group*, including how many different paintings in total and by type that you got.
  7. Have both sims both complete the painting aspiration.
  8. Have both sims complete the fortune aspiration. To do that, both your sims will need to have earned 200,000 and have 50,000 in household funds. Note that any funds earned by selling through the street gallery, which requires City Living, get attributed to everyone in the household, which can make it easier to complete this aspiration.
